The international ARD-music-competition is one of the most important competiotions of the world and starting point of many careers with awardees including Jessye Norman, Maurice André or Thomas Quasthoff.

Our documentary accompanies the candidates during the semi-final and final and members of the jury, concert agents and prestigious former winners have their say. What is being asked of young musicians nowadays and how are skills and musical personality being compared against each other? What is rewarded?

The film chronicles the history of the competition and presents its globally unique significance. At the same time, the film accompanies this years candidates through their defeats and victories and shows, how much musicality, personality, character, and first and foremost strong nerves are required, before the musicians can reach their goal.
