Joana Mallwitz and the Konzerthaus Orchestra will open the 2025/26 season at Berlin’s Konzerthaus am Gendarmenmarkt with an impressive concert. Pianist Alice Sara Ott, this season’s Artist in Residence, will also take to the stage at the Konzerthaus, ensuring an impressive and multifaceted opening concert.
The concert begins with one of the world’s most famous drum rhythms, Maurice Ravel’s Boléro, which builds steadily and almost hypnotically throughout the piece. This will be followed by a piano concerto by American composer Bryce Dessner, who is composer in residence at the Konzerthaus for this season, with Alice Sara Ott at the piano.
In the second half of the concert, the Great Hall is bathed in deep blue for Anna Meredith’s “Nautilus.” The piece combines classical music with electronic sounds, until Ludwig van Beethoven’s First Symphony rounds off the evening as a true classic.
The complete concert is available in the ARTE media library.
Recorded on September 5, 2025.
