Lang Lang & Gina Alice: “The Carnival of the Animals”
Lang Lang and Gina Alice bring the “The Carnival of the Animals” to the stage with the Gewandhaus Orchestra under Andris Nelsons – Saint-Saëns’ “zoological fantasy” for two pianos and orchestra. Saint-Saëns wrote the 14-movement suite in 1886, but then let the score disappear into a drawer in order to preserve his reputation as a “serious” artist. He only released the “Swan”. The humorous suite only conquered the world’s stages after his death and delighted audiences. “There are many clever ideas behind all the fun,” says Lang Lang. For him, the composition is a “magnificent romantic masterpiece”, and it also offered him a wonderful opportunity to work together with his wife Gina Alice.
