Van Dyck’s Baroque Painting – A Story of Rivalry and Fame

Anthony Van Dyck is largely known for his portraits – and for being Peter Paul Rubens’ most talented and most ambitious student. His religious paintings, drawn when he was a young man, tend to be largely forgotten. Was Rubens a role model for Van Dyck, or rather a rival from whose shadow he could never quite free himself? Together with a team of curators and conservators from the Alte Pinakothek in Munich, the documentary explores the nearly undiscovered side of the famous painter.
