“the story“ – Antisemitism in Europe

In recent years, a specter deemed long-forgotten has once again reared its ugly head across Europe: the specter of anti-Semitism, of hatred of Jews. For WDR‘s “the story“, the team talks to Jews and anti-Semites in Germany, France, Sweden and Poland to find out how the concepts are being reshaped.

It’s becoming increasingly difficult to draw a distinction: Is a critical opinion of Israel just criticism of the State of Israel or is it already anti-Semitism? Is it criticism of capitalism, or even New Right-speak? How does the Middle East conflict play into the hands of European anti-Semitism? Has anti-Semitism already arrived in the midst of European society, did it never disappear, or did it simply reawaken thanks to “favorable” historical, political and social circumstances? The apparent self-evidence with which everyone seems to accept that parts of our society are openly hostile to Jews is disturbing.
